Basic Principle of Safety Management

  • Safety takes priority over everything else.
  • All industrial accidents are preventable.
  • Safety is everyone responsibility.


Safety takes priority over everything else :

  • On earth, there is nothing more precious than human life.
  • Basis of all corporate activities are Employees.
  • First priority must be given to safety to employees at anytime.
  • So first priority is given always to human life !
  • No good work without safety work environment.
  • No good quality without good work.
  • No productivity improvement without good quality.

   





There is no difference between superior & subordinate in respect of assuring safety.
There is no any situation where superiors are allowed to take unsafe actions.
Whoever takes unsafe action, everyone should point out & give warning at the spot.


All industrial accidents are preventable:

By examining the accidents already happened, it is proved that the accidents could be prevented if company took necessary actions at that time of accident.
All the labor accidents come from human error.
Industrial accidents occur because potential danger exist in current working environment.
Who created this unsafe environment ?
Unsafe environment not generated by itself.
Accidents occurring situations:
Difference between small accidents & heavy accidents is very little.

We must eliminate all of the small accidents to prevent heavy accidents.

If dangers are ignored, one accidents out of 330 will be a situation that a worker should go to hospital. 29 accidents out of 330 will be such accidents level that worker put bandages on.

What is Absolute safety & Necessary safety:

No operation - No injury i.e. Absolute Safety.
Stop the operation in order to secure the safety.

Safety operation results in No injury- Necessary Safety.
Grasp typical danger in each operation & take preventive action. Wear (PPE) personal protective equipment.

Why employees take unsafe actions?
Below are the reasons of unsafe actions :

  • Operators do not know the working procedure.
  • Operators do not know the function of the machine.
  •  Not aware how to handle the machine.
  •  Not having complete experience of the work.
  •  Not aware about the dangerous factors.
  •  Negligency due to being busy.
  •  Pressure of supervisor to do the impossible work.
  •  Careless attitude towards work.

What are the other reason of unsafe action ?

  • Remove Safety Shoes or other safety devices.
  • Release object without notice.
  • Operate the machine without notice.
  • Leave tools,material or trace in unsafe place.
  • Use hands instead of tools.
  • Run carelessly.
  • Jump
  • Play a trick & make a mischief.
  • Not using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Touch or get in the moving area of machine.
  • Uniform wearing way not proper.


How to prevent the Accidents ?

  • Take advance measure at the planning stage.
  • Consider & evaluate safety condition.


Take advance measure when establishing new setup.
  • Take advance measure on site:
  • Take action in advance such as design production activities.
  • 5S activities
  • Activities for preventing near miss situations       
  • Safety audits &
  • Work improvement activities.

Dangerous environment is the factor of the industrial accidents.
Industrial accidents are preventable if we eliminate the danger.


Safety is everyone responsibility :

Not only company must fulfill duties but every employee must take responsible action to protect himself against the accidents.

All the employees should co-operate to create firm & open working environment so that everyone follows the rules frankly, give advice each other.

One person effort for safety will not work. Lack of co-operation destroy safety working place even if one person lacks.

One person 's unsafe action disturb order & the system of the working place. Good result will come only after team work.

What is the role of Supervisor & Manager for Safety:

  • Supervisor should make sure to give working on the spots immediately when he realize an unsafe action.
Silent Approval = do not close your eyes ( do not prevent not to see the fact)

Who will secure the safety ?

  • Safety should be secured by all the employees of the company.
  • Supervisor work is to create & maintain safety environment & atmosphere with all the employees participation.

    
Supervisor should make safety system & be responsible for the execution of the safety.

What are the duty of the Company ?

  • Take measure to protect workers from the danger.
  • Comply with every kind of laws including industrial safety & health laws.
